MEET OUR MASTER ROASTER
Gerry Leary founded The Unseen Bean in early 2003 with the intention of making the freshest, best-tasting coffee available anywhere. Leary, who is blind from birth, refused to let his sightlessness keep him from becoming a Master Coffee Roaster. He trained in San Francisco at the West Coast Specialty Coffee Company. After working as a blind mechanic for 40 years, Gerry decided it was time to trade in his toolbox for a coffee roaster. “I’m very content in the coffee profession. People are upset when their cars break down, but almost everyone is happy with a great cup of coffee.”
Beginning with only a quarter-pound roaster in a shed in his yard, Gerry logged every roast until he perfected the craft of roasting coffee in the dark. Who says you have to see the color of the beans? Gerry’s potential roasting capabilities were doubted initially. However, he quickly learned how to observe the sound and smell cues behind roasting excellent coffee with utmost precision. Gerry is now the world’s only known blind master coffee roaster.
The raw coffee beans Gerry sources for SteepFuze come mostly from Africa – the motherland of coffee itself! You’ll find Ethiopian, Tanzanian, and Kenyan beans in our rotation. We buy shade-grown, hard, Arabica beans, and they are certified fair trade and organic whenever possible.
FULL-SPECTRUM HEMP EXTRACT
It goes without saying that if we’re using the best coffee beans available, then we also need the best hemp extract. Our full-spectrum cannabinoid extract is derived from pesticide-free, organically grown industrial hemp. The hemp is harvested and brought to a state-of-the-art lab where the extract is processed under the most stringent and sterile conditions. The extract is whole-plant and full-spectrum, so consumers get the full benefits of the entire range of cannabinoids and terpenes that hemp has to offer. To avoid any use of potentially harmful solvents, our infused extract is processed using CO2.

To achieve that goal, we have eliminated all additives and toxic solvents of any kind. Gerry’s abilities have allowed us to fine-tune the roasting process to better fit our infusion technique. We don’t coat our beans in oil. We don’t soak them in tincture. Instead, we infuse the naturally occurring oils that are expressed from the raw coffee beans during the roasting process. These oils are most active immediately after roasting, so we infuse our beans the same day of the roast. And since all of our coffee is freshly roasted-to-order, that means when you place an order with SteepFuze, your hemp coffee ships out less than a week after it’s been roasted.
GET THE MOST OUT OF EVERY CUP!
Always use clean, pure, filtered water for best results. Nothing can ruin a great cup of coffee like bad water, so make sure your source is pure!
We recommend using a FRENCH PRESS for best results, as the longer steep time extracts the maximum amount of CBD and preserves the essential oils, making for a more flavorful cup. That said, our coffee can be brewed with drip coffee machines or whatever your preferred brewing method may be!
